Chasing Shadows with Mozart

A poem.

Josh Gane

Projection hues
and shared, pastoral harmonies

and glow amber

memories of infancy.

Will you sing?

The immortal enchantments
‘round cabin stoves

that rose up

like smoke-woven nimbus bards,
showered tradition on our families.

Will you rest?

Centuries of droplets
that settled wide eyes

bond us ‘cross oceans,
conjuring a chorus

of ancestral children
and their caregivers.

Will you dream?

Tones of experience
sound their longing

for me to cherish
and endure the torture

inherent to the voice
of innocence dwindling.

Will you wake?
